The victorious Roscrea U12 team that marched to a North and County Championship last September received their medals at a most memorable function in the Damer Court Hotel on Friday evening last.

Four months after their emphatic win on a scoreline of 4-8 to 0 1-3 over Carrick Swans in Semple Stadium the panel of outstanding young players gathered once again to reflect upon their great victory. The evening commenced at 7.30pm with a photo presentation in the company of the club’s main sponsors Roscrea Credit Union. The Credit Union are now in the third year of a five year sponsorship with the hurling club and all the credit union personnel that gathered on Friday evening last for the medal presentation said that they looked forward to the club as a whole building upon last year’s success and taking a lead from the U12’s and bringing more North and County honours back to Roscrea.

Next up was a surprise screening of the actual county final. This was thee first time that any of the U12 panel had seen a replay of the final courtesy of a special DVD that was produced for the occasion. All the players were thrilled to see themselves on the big screen and as they enjoyed the meal that they were treated to, they cheered on every score.

MC for the evening was Seamus Doran, Secretary of the Juvenile Committee. Seamus welcomed the main sponsors, Roscrea Credit Union as well as special guest Shane McGrath who was joined by Tommy and Diarmuid Fitzgerald. Seamus welcomed and thanked all the selectors, teachers and parents of the U12 County Champions and he also welcomed and thanked members of RCTLC and Pat O’Halloran (Rosderra) for selecting the U12 team as “The Team Of The Year” for the upcoming Sports Stars Awards sponsored by Rosderra. Finally Seamus gave great credit to all the members of the U12 panel and thanked them for the commitment and pride that they demonstrated last year on route to their great victory in the county final.

The presentation of medals then followed. Pat O Halloran presented the panel with their RCTLC Sports Awards medals. Diarmuid Fitzgerald presented the North Championship medals and Shane McGrath presented the county medals. After the presentation Shane McGrath said it was a great honour to have received an invitation to Roscrea to present the U12 panel with their well deserved medals. Shane said he had attended the summer camps in Roscrea in recent years and that it was obvious to him that their was great young talent in the club. He encouraged all the members of the U12 panel to build upon their success and to try and go on and achieve even more success in the years ahead. Roscrea’s own County stalwart Diarmuid Fitzgerald, echoed the sentiments of Shane McGrath and said he looked forward to all the Roscrea juvenile teams achieving more success in the years ahead.

 RCTLC Members were delighted to announce that the Roscrea U12 County Championship team was selcted as Team Of The Year 2008 as part of the RCTLC Sports Awards.

Also at the gathering Lilian Delaney announced all this year’s recipients of an R.C.T.L.C sports award. Congratulations to Jason Fitzpatrick part of the Roscrea Minor Panel for receiving a “Youth Award” and congratulations to John Dillon “Hall of Fame” recipient John captained the first Roscrea Senior Hurling team to win a County Tipperary Hurling Final, forty years ago, in 1968. Lillian also announced that special guest at this year’s sports awards which will take place on March 7th will be Moss Keane.
Finally the club would like to thank anyone that helped in anyway in helping the presentation night to be such a success. Particular thanks to Maria Moloney from the Roscrea Credit Union Youth Group who helped decorate the function room on Friday afternoon last.
