More national honours were bestowed upon Roscrea Credit Union recently with the announcement that Roscrea Credit Union has become one of the first companies across all sectors in the country to be awarded the revised Excellence Ireland, Q-Mark certification.
This awarded follows on the back of the credit union’s great success last September at the National Quality and Excellence Awards in which Roscrea Credit Union finished second in the financial services sector, just losing out to Hibernian Direct Insurance, a subsidiary of Hibernia General Insurance “The World’s Sixth Largest Insurance Group”.
The latest accolade for Roscrea Credit Union comes on the back of a rigours audit and assessment that was conducted on site at the credit union seven weeks ago. Apart from measuring credit union procedures and assessing credit union policy, the auditors conducted a number of intense and challenging interviews with selected staff of the credit union. It is only fitting that members of Roscrea Credit Union are aware of how the board and management of Roscrea Credit Union continue to challenge themselves on a daily basis. Apart from the in depth financial audit which is conducted every October, the Credit Union is always prepared for numerous internal audits of its management system. Members of RCU can be assured that the Excellence Ireland Audit is assessed under very strict criteria and like our annual financial audit, Excellence Ireland demands the need for transparency and accountability, with evidence and audit trails being a prerequisite for maintaining certification.

The auditors report which was received by the credit union in early March said that there was clear evidence produced during the assessment, of the board and management of the credit union taking a proactive approach to the ongoing management of the organisation. An example of this was the cost control approach adopted by the board in order to deal with the current challenging economic environment. The auditors report also complemented the credit union on its continued members driven approach despite the challenges of the current economic crisis.
All at Roscrea Credit Union are very proud of the recent success. The fact that Roscrea Credit Union’s yearly Excellence Ireland Audit Score has increased once again despite the new and rigorous criteria involved must be very heartening for RCU members and as a Credit Union, Roscrea Credit Union Board of Directors, Management and Staff are delighted to be able to improve and enhance their image as a ‘member focused’ organisation.
