Friday last was an historic day for the town of Roscrea as the community gathered on the first day of summer for the official re-opening of the all new Glebe Park. The town park was recently subjected to major refurbishment and now has some wonderful facilities for both young and old alike with the focal point been the new children’s playground.

Life long Roscrea Tidy Towns member and enthusiast, Mr Brendan Carmody had the honour of cutting the ribbon and declaring the all new Roscrea Glebe Park open at a special ceremony on Friday evening last. Brendan is pictured here performing his official duties in the company of Tidy Towns Chairman, Cllr Denis Ryan and committee members. The Roscrea Tidy Towns Committee are grateful to all those that supported their initiative to revamp the park and bring some much needed added facilities to the site.

MC for the event was Cllr Denis Ryan who is also the present Chairman of Roscrea Tidy Towns. Denis paid tribute to the Tidy Towns Committee who seized the initiative to drive the project resulting in a redeveloped town park amenity which cost close to €200,00,00 and will greatly enhance the town of Roscrea and will provide safe and enjoyable recreational facilities in the community for many years to come.
Cllr Ryan said that the Tidy Towns Committee was very grateful to all its support groups which helped make the development project possible. In particular Cllr Ryan praised the support of Roscrea Credit Union and Roscrea Lions Club for their continued commitment to Roscrea and projects that are of a major benefit to the town and the locality in general. Cllr Ryan praised the County Council for their commitment to the project and he praised Frank Murray Building contractor for his tireless efforts to help ensure that the work carried out on the park was of the highest standard possible. Cllr Ryan also added that the committee were very grateful to Frank Murray for his sponsorship and that the committee were indebted to Fr Tom Corbett and the Roscrea Parish Council for their generosity and financial contribution towards the overall cost of the re-development. Of course it should not be forgotten that the Tidy Towns Committee themselves contributed handsomely to the project out of a fund that they had established over the past few years with the town park development specifically in mind. Cllr Ryan concluded by thanking Willie Kavanagh for doing such an excellent job on sourcing the equipment at an affordable price for the project.
The official blessing of the park was performed by Fr Tom Corbett, Rev Adrian Hewson and Rev Brian Griffin. The greatest honour of the day went to Mr Brendan Carmody who performed the official opening of the park. Brendan is a life long Roscrea Tidy Towns enthusiast and has dedicated many years of service to the Roscrea Tidy Towns Committees and other organisations in Roscrea that continually strive to help make our town a better one to live, visit and grow up in.
The park is now open and boasts some of the best playground facilities in the midlands. Make sure you and your family take some time out to enjoy what really is a wonderful amenity and a great addition to the town of Roscrea.
Local councilors, county council, credit union and lions club officials were delighted to support the local Roscrea Tidy Towns Committee who spearheaded the recent redevelopment of the Glebe Park, Roscrea.
