The Racket Hall Country House Hotel played host to Roscrea’s biggest entertainment night of the year on Sunday last, with the much anticipated return of “Roscrea’s Got Talent”

The event was planned for the last number of weeks and no stone was left unturned by the organising committee as they helped ensure that anyone attending the event would be treated to a spectacular and truly entertaining show.

Congratulations to  Dylan Rooney overall winner of the 2009 “Roscrea’s Got Talent”.  Dylan is pictured here with his fellow competitors, MC for the event Ian Hanrahan and judges, Siobhan Bowe, Tadhg maher and Brian King.

And what a show it proved to be.  After it’s phenomenal success last year the pressure was really on to go a step further this year and bring the event to the next level, and that’s exactly what happened as Roscrea Got’s Talent firmly established itself as one of the best entertainment shows in the midland region.

Brian King (Judge) congratulates Dylan Rooney from Toomevara and the very popular winner of the 2009 “Roscrea’s Got Talent” competition.

Síobhan Bowe was delighted to present the  “Good Girls Gone Bad” dance group with third prize at this year’s Roscrea’s Got Talent.

Twelve finalists ranging from singers to comedians, dancers, a poet and musicians selected from auditions held over the past number of weeks came together to battle it out, reach for the stars and see who would win the €1000.00 valued prize sponsored by the Racket Hall Hotel. More importantly than the prize the honour of becoming the overall winner of Roscrea’s Got Talent 2009 was at stake and the competition for that coveted title was certainly very intense as the hall filled with passion and raw emotion as fans cheered on their favourite act. After an unbelievable night of entertainment the extremely popular winner was Dylan Rooney who at only twelve years of age propelled himself into the minds and hearts of all those in attendance. The richly talented young Toomevara man captivated his audience with his rendition of “You Raise Me Up”.  His outstanding performance catapulted him into the top three contestants on the night which afforded him the opportunity with two other acts to fight it out in the grand finale for the overall grand prize.  The judges for the event, Siobhan Bowe, Tadhg Maher and Brian King had an extremely difficult job choosing three acts from the twelve acts that competed to face of in the final.  After much discussion and soul searching they eventually settled on Dylan, the band D-Block and the dance group “Good Girls Gone Bad”.  Each act put in a stirring second performance but there could be only one winner and the judges were unanimous in their decision after Dylan once again won over the audience with Andrea Bocelli’s version of “Con te Partiro”.

Stephen Mills performs a magic trick with a difference

The organisers of the event namely Pauline Moloney, Ciara Minogue, Paul Dwyer, Susan Crawford, Sandra Hutchinson, Ian Hanrahan who was excellent as M.C once again this year, Paddy Collision and Paddy Bergin, would like to offer a sincere thanks to all those who helped make the show such as success.  The Main Sponsors Racket Hall Country House Hotel and it’s manger Chris O’Sullivan are thanked most sincerely for their generosity and support for the show.  Roscrea Credit Union was once again on board with a substantial contribution to the show and they are thanked for their commitment and co-operation in helping to stage such a great event.

One of the key objectives of this year’s Roscrea’s Got Talent was to raise as much funds as possible for the further development of the Abbey Hall.  The Abbey Hall recently became home to the “Roscrea Abbey Community Centre Ltd”, which is providing a great facility at present to various community groups and has the ultimate goal of providing a modern theatre facility for the wider community. The half time raffle was a very important part of the fundraising involved in making the night such a success and the committee would like to thank the following businesses who contributed prizes for the raffle; Coffey’s Chemist, The Full House, Dunnes Stores, Jade’s Saloon, Jim Fuller, Loughnane’s Pub, Joan Bourke, Tescos, Mullally Menswear, Bernies, Paul Dwyer and Frawley’s Chemist.

The committee would also like to thank the three judges Siobhan Bowe, Tadhg Maher and Brian King for all their help and their comments throughout the evening.  Indeed such was the strength of this year’s competition that each judge felt compelled to comment on each of the contestants which in itself is a tribute to all those that took part.  A special word of thanks also to last year’s winner Niamh Fitzpatrick who made a special appearance on Sunday night and entertained the audience while the judges were making their final deliberations.  A big thank you also to Sinead and Aoife Kinsella as well as three times All-Ireland champion, Martin Mchugh who provided the half time entertainment.

After the show the winner, Dylan Rooney, spoke to Brian King about his interest in singing and his plans for the future.  Dylan was keen to thank his family for all their support and was also quick to point out that his former primary school teacher Joan O’Meara is one of the main reasons why he has the confidence to perform like he did at this year’s Roscrea’s Got Talent”.  Dylan offered his sincere thanks to Mrs O’Meara for all her support and encouragement.  At present Dylan receives vocal tuition with Deirdre Hanafin and again he was anxious to thank the vocalist for all her training and dedication to his voice.  Amongst his inspirations it is no surprise that Dylan lists Sarah Brightman, Luciano Pavarotti, and Andrea Bocelli amongst his favourites.  Away from music Dylan has a great interest in sport and enjoys both football and hurling.  Roscrea’s Got Talent was only the second competition that Dylan ever entered.  The first was in Killaloe last year and it was no surprise to learn that he was victorious there also.  One gets the feeling we will be hearing a lot more about Dylan Rooney in the years to come.

A big thank you to all the acts that took part in this year’s show.  Without their enthusiasm and desire to get involved there simply would be no show.  It is hoped that the following acts by competing in this year’s show will inspire even more people to come forward next year and audition for the 2010 “Roscrea’s Got Talent!.  Well done and a big thank you to all the following, Dylan Rooney, D-Block, (Ciara Keane, Luke Garland & Rubin Noyce) “Good Girls Gone Bad”, (Lisa Hogan, Deirdre Kearns, Clodagh Keane, Olive Hogan), Elaine Ryan, Bridget Maher, Ann Costello, Paul Ryan, Stephen Mills, Freda Glennon, Luke McAndrew, Rubin Noyce and a special mention for the youngest competitor Ciara Wynne who proved she could give “Miley Cyrus” a run for her money and showed great style and confidence on stage.
