The prize giving ceremony for the recent St Cronan’s Day photography competition took place recently at Roscrea Library. The event was organised by the local St Cronan’s Day Committee with the help of their main supporters, Roscrea Credit Union.

Congratulations to Evan O’Donoghue (Corville N.S) who was second in the Primary School Section of the recent St Cronan’s Day Photo Competition. M.C for the event was Andrew Walsh who welcomed everyone, including the prize winners, their supporters and credit union representatives, Brendan Wright and Brian King whom he thanked for helping sponsoring the event and organsing the exhibition that is currently on display in the library. Andrew said that the standard for the competition was extremely high and he encouraged everyone to spread the work and get down to Roscrea Library to see for themselves how difficult a decision the judges had to make.

Noel O’Meara won second prize, adult section, in the recent St Cronan’s Day Photo Competition

Phildelma Carroll was delighted to accept third place, adult section, on behalf of her son Darren in the recent St. Cronan’s Day Competition

The overall winner of the adult section was P.J McNicholas who took a beautiful picture of Monaincha. In second place was Noel O’Meara and in third lace was Darren Carroll. In the primary school section, Aisling Mcnicholas (Sacred Heart), niece of P.J, completed a memorable family double by winning first place. In second was Evan O’Donoghue from Corville National School and in third we had Amelia Lown from Dromakeenan. Winner of the secondary school section was Lauren King and winner of the special recognition award was St Cronan’s Association.

The St Cronan’s Day Committee consists of Joan Murray, Andrew Walsh, Adrian Hewson, Margaret Ryan, Jenny Carroll, Lily Cummins and Mary Collins. The committee hope to build upon the success of this year’s event and look forward to discussing plans over the coming months for April 2012.

The Competition Launch Took Place In Glebe Park
All the winning photos in addition to many of the excellent photos that were submitted but which did not receive a prize are currently on display in the library. In addition the exhibition has a strong focus on St Cronan and is certainly worth a visit.
