Roscrea Johns Pieta will be hosting SafeTalk which is a half day training programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources, at the Damer Court Hotel on December 14th between 10am and 2pm.
These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their communities. Following a SafeTalk workshop you will be more willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide. During the SafeTalk programme, you can expect your attitude and beliefs to be challenged. You will learn why it is important to be suicide alert, you will lean clear and practical information on what to do if you need to support someone who is at risk of suicide, you will practise the TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keepsafe) steps to connect a person with suicidal thoughts to suicide first-aid-intervention caregivers and the programme will conclude with practise in activating a suicide alert. This training is suitable for everyone who wants to help prevent suicide and is prepared to become suicide alert. It will hep participants to move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid signs of suicide risk and help identify people who have thoughts of suicide. Importantly, it will help you apply the TALK steps to connect a person with suicidal thoughts to people and agencies that can help them.
The number of people who can participate on December 14th is limited to between 25 and 30 so booking is vital. For further information contact Sarah on (087)7618476 or e-mail roscrea@campus.ie. |
