Past Captains Honoured At The 2011 Roscrea Hurling Club “ Year in the Red” Launch: A crowd of enthusiastic hurling patrons gathered in the Damer Court Hotel on Friday evening last for the eagerly anticipated launch of the club’s 2011 review magazine “Year In The Red”.

As part of this year’s launch of Roscrea Hurling Club’s annual review “Year In The Red” the past County Final winning captains were honoured in addition to Donie Moloney who Captained Roscrea to victory in the inaugural All-Ireland Club Championship final in 1971.

MC for the occasion was Juvenile Secretary, Seamus Doran. Seamus said that since it’s inception the magazine has gone from strength to strength and all hurling enthusiasts now look forward to the annual publication. Seamus thanked the committee that helps produce the magazine which included himself, Tom McCarthy, Seán Hogan, Joe Moloughney and the PRO, Brian king. Seamus also thanked the sponsors and all those that have agreed to help sell the magazine over the coming weeks.

Past Roscrea Hurling Club County Final winning Captain, Mick Hogan, was delighted to attend the club’s 2011 launch of “Year In The Red”. At the launch Mick received a special presentation in recognition of his captaincy. Mick was delighted to be joined by his family for the occasion.

Mark O’Meara Roscrea Hurling Club’s Senior Captain for 2011 was given the honour of making a special presentation to the victorious Roscrea Team that won this year’s Tipperary Community Games County Championship. All members of the historic panel received an award and the committee was delighted to have Mark in attendance for such an important occasion.
Seamus Doran than called upon Chairman Of The Hurling Club, Kevin Brady to make a special presentation to members of Roscrea Comhaltas who were present on the night. The presentation was made in recognition of Roscrea Comhaltas celebrating their 50th anniversary. Throughout the years Comhaltas have always offered great support to the Hurling Club and the Executive felt it was only fitting that the Club acknowledge this wonderful support.

The M.C then called upon Juvenile Chairman, Roddy Ryan who concluded the evening by presenting the 2011, For The Love Of The Game awards. This year the club was delighted to honour the past Roscrea County Final winning Captains in addition to Donie Moloney who Captained Roscrea to victory in the inaugural All-Ireland Club Championship Final in 1971. The recipients included John Dillon, Patsy Rowland, Mick Hogan, Jackie Hannon, Francis Loughnane, Kevin Brady, and Donie Moloney.

This edition of “Year In The Red” is once again excellently compiled, with reports from the various teams from the seniors to U6’s for the year gone by. In addition the magazine is packed with photographs, and GAA news from all the local schools as well as St Cronan’s Camogie Club and Inane Rovers. The yearly favorites also make a return, including “A Trip Down Memory Lane”. At just €4.00 this magazine is a must for every household in the town and for all Roscrea and GAA enthusiasts now living abroad. The magazine is now on sale and you are encouraged to buy your copy as quickly as possible.

The Club would like to thank the Damer Court Hotel and all who helped make the event such a great success. In addition the Club would encourage all members to attend the upcoming AGM. Notices were distributed last week and it is very important that as many members as possible attend. The Club would also like to extend it’s congratulations to Coolderry Hurling Club. Sunday’s victory in the Leinster Final was a tremendous achievement and we wish them every success in their preparations for the semi-final.
