The latest edition of the ever-popular Roscrea People is now available. The launch took place recently at the Damer Court Hotel.
The honour of launching the 38th issue was bestowed upon local artist and author Mary Arrigan. Mary complimented George and Carmel Cunningham on another wonderful publication and wished them every success with the 168 page publication.
Editor George Cunningham thanked all who help produce this year’s Roscrea People particularly his wife Carmel, Photographers Pj Wright and Brian Redmond and advertising manager Amy Brooks.

There are many pieces of interest in this year's edition. Apart from the yearly review of most clubs, committees and organisations in the area, this year's edition also features a wonderful piece on the Abbey Hall Restoration Programme and a most interesting interview with Joe McGrath the County Manager and his hopes and aspirations for the future of Roscrea.
The business community is well represented throughout the book with an excellent review of the last twelve months for Roscrea Chamber Of Commerce coupled with a feature piece on Frank Murray Construction – A local success story despite all the current economic woes and tribulations.
The great work conducted by Roscrea Heritage is reviewed in colour and reference is made in the Roscrea People to the Roscrea Heritage Audio Guide that was compiled by Aileen O’Meara and Geroge Cunningham with the support of Roscrea Chamber and the Heritage Council over the summer months.

Roscrea People
“Lead Me Home” a mass written and composed by local musician Seamus Doran features in this year’s Roscrea People as does a piece by Eamonn Horan on “The Restoration Of The Leap Castle”. In his yearly review of times past, local historian Tomás Lupton reflects on the year that was 1941. The piece features interesting snippets on the Tennis Courts that used to be located in Ashbury and on the opening of the new town library in June of that year. Willie Hayes talks about Roscrea’s Abundant Heritage of Trees and Liam Doran’s Book celebrating the CBS in Roscrea is also featured. Local author John Browne features in this year’s Roscrea People with a short story entitled “I Went To Las Vegas” which is well worth a read and Seamus O’Doherty revisits 1971 probably the greatest year in the history of Roscrea Hurling Club.
All in all the Roscrea People is yet again another fascinating read as we approach the end of yet another year. Compliments to Carmel Cunningham who once again drafted the annals for the Roscrea People. The annals as always provides a quick snap shot of all the news as it happened in the local area throughout the year and in addition to the annals the publication is filled with photos that were taken locally throughout the year.
The Roscrea People which was first published in 1974 is available now for just €10.00. Sales of the magazine go towards helping Roscrea People Projects at Roscrea Library, St Cronan’s Services as well as local schools and many other beneficiaries. The Roscrea People is simply a must for any person with any connection big or small to the Roscrea area and with many business struggling this year it is imperative that Roscrea People ensure the survival of this annual publication by making a purchase. After all, Christmas in Roscrea without the Roscrea People would be like Christmas without Santa Claus. Well done George.
