“Lets Read Pal” is an initiative from the local Schools Completion Officer, Mairead Keevey and Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré. Twelve 5th and 6th class students from three local schools, Scoil Eoin Naofa, Corville and the Sacred Heart Convent were paired with a mentor from the transition year pupils in Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré. Each student picked a topic that was of interest to them and they carried out research on their chosen topics over a number of weeks. The research took place after school, using resources available from the library such as books, encyclopaedias and the internet. Once they had their research carried out, they put it all together on a poster or in a scrapbook. Topics which the pupils covered were varied and included Tipperary GAA, various soccer teams, horses, cooking and hairstyles. All of the students did a huge amount of work and must be congratulated for the effort that they made.

Congratulations to Corville N.S who participated recently in the SCP “Lets Read Pal 2012 Initiative

Many thanks to all who made the project such a success in particular Super Valu who supplied refreshments for the participants and thanks also to O’Mahony’s booksellers in Limerick who gave books on the chosen topics for each primary school student.
The projects completed by the students are on display in the library for a number of weeks and all are invited to come along and see for themselves the great talent we have in our town.
