Celebrating 50 Years
In June 1964 a little estate in Roscrea came alive with the sight and sounds of its 1st residents moving into their new homes in number 1 to 20 Kennedy Park.
It was called after the late American President John F Kennedy. It was the 1st phase of what was going to be the biggest housing estate in North Tipperary comprising of 3 estates in Kennedy Park, Brophy Terrace, and Cois Carrig.
On Friday Morning Aidan Mac and Tipp Fm came in and broadcasted from Tom Nashs Shop where we had loads of residents who got up early for some fun and we had 2 of our residents cut the Birthday cake Pat Ryan and Ena O Lone, and than on Saturday the 31st of may we celebrated with a Family Fun day.
We started with Mass Celebrated by Fr Michael Harding and our past Parish Priest Fr Tony Cahir who was welcomed back by everyone. After Mass we kicked of the day with Music from Jayo our Resident Digital DJ and some refreshments and cakes tarts and buns donated by members of the Park and people from outside also.
We had Bouncy Castles a Mechanical Bull, Sumo Wrestlers, and the wreaking ball with thanks to Camcor Castles we had giant connect 4 giant draughts and giant jenga all thanks to John Brophy and C.A.M.P. a Barbeque was had from the home of a neighbour and it was enjoyed by all while the music played the crowd danced sang and had a ball. The music and fun and games continued all day and into the night and it was great to see people catch up when they hadn't seen each other for so long.
For people that dont know us we are a housing estate that have been thru 50 years of fun sadness and laughter and 2 recessions and when we stood and spoke it was of loved ones and friends that have passed and the funny times and pranks We got up to.
Our neighbours are amazing and every single one of them are always there for each other and still every time after time you call to a door looking for donations or just support everyone gives without a complaint and an apologetic word of im sorry its not more.
Down through the years the park has had different committees all with the same idea and that is to improve our area for the better and that can be seen with the different projects that has taken place down through the years. I have lived here all my life after been part of the famous Over The Bridge gang but have to say I'm a Kennedy Parker for better or worse and its always for the better. some of our older neighbours couldn't make it so we just want to wish them all well Mrs Brooks Frank and Maureen Fitzpatrick Christy Maher. We had a Beautiful Photo Taken Of our oldest Resident Mr Dan Ryan Who Is 97with our Youngest Resident Caeden Sean Simmons Grace who is all of 3Mts
