QUICK WINS FOR 2017
Ø Paint the ESB poles.
Ø Paint and brighten up walls from the Chapel Lane/Gantly road entrance from Limerick.
Ø Add art work to those block walls when painted.
Ø Add more flowers and perennial beds around the roundabouts, and also approach roads.
Ø Paint and brighten walls through link ways ie Garda Station, Freshfields,
Ø Plant trees in areas of the town ie Gantly road to soften the hard scape there.
Ø Someone to follow up on the junior tidy town’s poetry competition.
Ø Organise walks and talks on wildlife conservation, waste minimisation, composting, saving energy etc.
Ø We have a number of polytunnels, are these productive ? Benefits ?
Ø Level and edge the Limerick road approach, and plant wildflower seeds inside the mowed area.
Ø Develop Community gardens with wildflowers, and plants to attract bees, butterflies etc.
Ø Plant herb gardens, and also boxes with incredible edibles.
Ø Get the young people to plant their own seeds ie sunflowers, cosmos, nasturtiums etc. that can be transplanted into GARDENS.
Ø River project – get a group involved with Angling club and direction from Ken to add colour and life all along the river. Put in little stone beds to protect and support the soil. NTLP FUNDING. ? Funding has been sought from Tipperary Leader for this.
Ø Get expert advice from Agencies ie Bird Watch Ireland, Irish Wildlife Parks, and www.local prevention.ie.
Ø Get a group of young people to do a mural of all the wildlife to be seen around the town and have it displayed.
Ø Organise a buy and plant a window box or two and charge €40 per box so that someone is paid to maintain them. Check if there is a grant for this ? Someone to follow up on it.
Ø Check if it is possible to put in a bird sanctuary along the bank of the river, fence it, and also see if ducks in the river are possible ? This would add to mark under wildlife and natural amenities. Is there someone to research this and take it on ?
Ø The River is our greatest amenity, so let us work together to improve it. Add seating in areas where people can sit and watch it ie Church grounds to the Monastery road, River Lane by Tesco, and if possible along the Mall if footpath was widened.
Ø See if it is possible to remove, paint or cover the large water pipe across the river in the Mall.
Ø Get a liaison person who would visit the schools and encourage them to enter some of the tidy towns awards, all worth money.
Ø Young people to follow up on the poetry trail at the Wildlife and Amenity area.
Ø Name roundabouts and bridges around the town
Ø Find young people who would work on progressing the “Treeway around Roscrea” and putting information at each tree ie name, species, age, occasion marked etc.
Leaders required to drive those projects forward and work with a few.
