An appeal to the people of Roscrea to help rebuild an orphanage that was devastated by the Tsunami disaster was made at the recent Roscrea People Of The Year Awards.Roscrea Community Response in association with Roscrea People and Roscrea Credit Union are in the process of spearheading a project to help rebuild Galle Junior Orphanage in Southern Sri Lanka. The project although in its infancy is expected to gather momentum over the coming weeks.
Roscrea Credit Union has already collected approximately 8,000 euro in donations. It is expected that this money along with anymore-forthcoming donations will be pledged to the fund to help rebuild the orphanage. Last week Roscrea Community Response had a book sale and the proceeds of this venture will now be added to the fund. It is expected that further book sales and fundraising activities will take place in the near future.
An appeal is now being made to all organizations, individuals etc in the area that have fundraised for the Tsunami disaster to lodge their money to the account in Roscrea Credit Union. In this way at least the people of Roscrea will be able to monitor where exactly their donations are going. It is expected that once the project commences the media will receive photos etc on a regular basis so that people from the area can be kept up to date with progress on the rebuilding project. It is also envisaged that skills people and crafts people from the Roscrea area may actually travel to Sri Lanka to help with building work on the project. More details of this project will be made available over the coming weeks and months. The account number in Roscrea Credit Union for your reference is 15192.
