Roscrea Celebrates 28th Successive St Patrick’s Day Parade:

Roscrea Celebrates 28th Successive St Patrick’s Day Parade: Grey skies, rain and a biting wind failed to dampen the colour and excitement that helped make the 28th successive Annual St Patrick’s Day Parade in Roscrea one of the most successful ever. Green hats and flags were the order of the day as hundreds gathered to enjoy the festivities.

Irish dancers, floats, bands and local groups and organisations paraded from the Dublin Road up Castle Street onto Main Street passed the viewing stand and on to Grove Street amidst a wave of tremendous fun and excitement.

Once again entries this year were of a very high standard, and the judges had a very difficult task indeed when asked to select the best overall prize. Guest Of Honour at this year's parade was John Lupton. While the crowds were gathering and the expectation building Roscrea Comhaltas provided some wonderful entertainment from Market Square.

Congratulations to Mr Steve Crofton and his committee who despite all the odds continue to provide the town with its greatest day of entertainment in the year. Hopefully this year will be a watershed for the committee and that more businesses, clubs and organisations will see the benefits of not just keeping the Patrick’s Day Parade alive in Roscrea, but also turning it into a parade that will continue to prosper over the years ahead.
