The Roscrea “Blackmills” site was officially opened by Minister Tom Parlon in Roscrea on Monday afternoon last. The Minister thanked everyone involved in the O.P.W and Roscrea Heritage Society for all their help and dedication to the Blackmills project over the years. Situated on Church Street Roscrea, the “Blackmills Site” is home to the 10th century “Round Tower” and the 12th Century original “High Cross” which previously stood close to the “West Cable” situated across the road from the Blackmills Site. The Blackmills site also hosts a number of exhibition panels and a fantastic sculpture of St Cronan courtesy of local sculptor Werner Groll. Adjacent to the site visitors will find the purposefully designed “Millennium Garden” which makes accessibility to the Blackmills site all the more enjoyable for Roscrea people and visitors alike. The Blackmills site is now open to the public on Weekdays from 10.00am to 6.00pm and on weekends from 9.30am – 4.30pm. The site is managed by the O.P.W in conjunction with Roscrea Heritage. Pictured at the official opening are L/R Michael Smith T.D, Sean Benton Chairman (O.P.W), Minister Tom Parlon, George Fasenfeld and George Cunningham.
