Roscrea Comhaltas Set New Srandards For Fleadh CheoilFleadh Progress
It has to be said that this year’s county fleadh cheoil set a new standard for the holding of the event in the future. This was the first year that a fringe programme of events was arranged around the fleadh, which began on the Wednesday night before the weekend’s competitions and continued for six days and nights. There was music, song and dance in great supply, and there was something on offer for all tastes.
Another first for Roscrea was that during this year’s fleadh cheoil there was a CD launch by not one, but two of Roscrea Comhaltas’ members, Michael Ryan and Tadhg Maher. Both of these gentlemen are multi-talented and many times All-Ireland Champions. Michael is an All-Ireland Champion at both whistling and three-row accordion playing, while Tadgh is renown for his traditional singing which has won him accolades both at home and away.
The local branch members wish them both every success for the future. Copies of their CD’s are available directly from the men themselves as well as from the Music Store Roscrea.
Fleadh Results
To list all the results of over 1,000 entries would take a long time and make very strange reading indeed. Suffice to say that Roscrea Branch members were well represented among the prizewinners with 27 prizewinners and placings that will represent the branch in the Munster Fleadh Cheoil.
