Best wishes to Bernie’s Super Valu Triathlon team who will be taking part in the Musgrave SuperValu-Centra Ltd National Triathlon on Saturday the 2nd of September......The three enthusiastic athletes are currently serving members of Bernie’s Super Valu, Roscrea. They are Seamus Mahon, Jason Kennedy and Peter Smyth.
Each athlete has their own specialty. Seamus will do the 800m swim, Jason will embark on the 33km cycle and Peter will take on the 10km run. The triathlon will take place in Farran Co Cork. All monies raised will go to Our Lady’s Hospital For Sick Children Crumlin, Co Dublin, as well as the “Irish Cancer Society”. Over the past two years this event as raised a massive €1,500,000 for the Hospital and the Cancer Society. Funds in recent years were used to help with the construction of the New National Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Centre in the New Medical Tower of Our Lady’s Hospital which incidentally is one of the largest hospitals in Europe devoted exclusively to children.
Speaking to Super Valu Manager this week, Brian Colclough, told The Tipperary Star/Roscrea Online that he was very proud of the three lads and wished them every success possible on Saturday the 2nd of September. He said it was fantastic to work with people with such initiative and encouraged the public to support them, and in doing so support two such worthwhile charities. Brian pointed out that the three athletes carried out all the intensive training needed to be able to compete in this gruelling competition, in their own time. Such dedication needs to be applauded and we are sure that like last year, the athletes representing Roscrea will have a very successful day and fundraising campaign.
Fundraising will continue throughout the store in the build up to the competition. There is no pressure whatsoever on anyone, as donations are by voluntary contribution only. Once again we wish the lads every success and trust that the whole event will indeed be a tremendous national success.
