There was widespread praise for the new Christmas lights at December’s monthly meeting of Roscrea Chamber Of Commerce. By now most people will have realised that the “Christmas lights” in Roscrea enjoyed a radical makeover this year. While the lights take up a lot of the Chamber’s time, it was decided that this year the town needed to demonstrate its progression by introducing new features to the lights etc to help make the whole Christmas experience in Roscrea better for consumers.
It is now widely expected that businesses in the town will benefit greatly from the vast improvements in the Christmas lights. However these improvements did not come cheep and despite a generous Capital Grant from North Tipperary County Council aided by Cllr Michael Smith, the Chamber still owe a considerable amount of money for the lights. For this reason the Chamber would encourage all businesses to pay their “Christmas Lights Subscription” as quickly as possible this year. Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Chamber, Secretary Brian King complimented “Rossa lighting” for supplying the new lights. The Secretary also thanked Barry O’Donnell for the speed and efficiency he showed putting up the lights which he said is a very difficult, and time consuming job. The Secretary said that because of the huge increase in the cost of the lights this year which also involves ESB costs etc, a fundraiser was being organised to help generate some extra revenue to pay for the lights. Spencer/Spillane, Bernies Super Valu, Shaws, Doherty Hardware and “The Tower Restaurant” were thanked for donating prizes for the fundraising draw. Tickets will be on sale shortly and anyone who enjoys seeing the Christmas Lights in Roscrea each year are encouraged to buy a ticket so that the Chamber can afford to continue the tradition of having the town looking as festive as possible for Christmas. Indeed if the fundraiser is a success and if all businesses pay their “Christmas Lights Subscription Fee”, then the Chamber will look to make even greater improvements to the festive lighting for Christmas 2007.
The Chamber hosted its first ever formal switching on of the Christmas lights in Roscrea on Friday evening last the 1st of December. The Shannon Development “Personality Of The Year” Mr Brendan Carmody had the honour of switching on the new lights much to the pleasure and the enjoyment of all those gathered for the historic occasion.
