Road To China “A Wonderful Success”
Congratulations to Ciara Minogue North Tipperary “Special Olympics Support An Athlete” Co-Ordinator for staging a very successful fundraising campaign on the roads and streets of North Tipperary on Friday last as part of her crusade to raise funds to help send two local athletes to the Special Olympics world Games in China, later this year.

Blue skies and glorious sunshine lent itself to a day where community spirit was evident everywhere one looked. Volunteers were out from dawn last Friday decorating roads with bunting and balloons etc in their bid to create as big an impact as possible and convince drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, dog walkers, and shoppers etc to contribute to their cause. Outside of Telethon it would be hard to remember a day in Roscrea or indeed the country in general where such a concentrated effort was made to raise funds for such a worthy cause.

This week Ciara Minogue was quick to acknowledge the tremendous help she received throughout North Tipperary with the “Road To China” fundraising day. In particular she thanked her aunt, Theresa Cleary from Borrisokane and all her helpers from the local community and secondary school for their tremendous help. From the Templemore area, Ciara said she was lucky to have Martin Layden on board who was assisted by students from our Lady’s’ Secondary School. Ciara said she would also like to compliment Seamus Manning a close friend of the Minogue family for pulling out all the stops in Thurles assisted by some fantastic volunteers. In Roscrea Ciara thanked Brian King in the Credit Union for all his help promoting the Special Olympic Fundraising Events over the past few months. Ciara also thanked Brian for organising his Credit Union Youth Action Group who collected throughout Roscrea on Friday. Ciara complimented the great enthusiasm of the group and said without their tremendous help the day would not have been such an amazing success. As part of the fundraising campaign the Credit Union Youth Group have also organised a teenage disco for Grant’s Hotel on Friday May the 11th from 8.30pm. Roscrea Musical Society was also thanked for their very generous contribution of €300.00 towards the “Road To China” fundraiser. Ciara who has graced the stage of the Abbey Hall on many occasions thanked all her friends in the “Musical Society” for such a generous contribution and she wished them every success with this year’s show “South Pacific” which continues throughout this week. In conclusion Ciara would like to thank any volunteer who in any way contributed to last Friday’s tremendous fundraising success.

“The Road To China” was of course just one of many successful fundraising events that Ciara Minouge has organised in recent months as part of her “Special Olympics Support An Athlete Fundraising Campaign” in North Tipperary. The Mini Pops “Stars In Their Eyes” which thrilled audiences in Roscrea a few weeks ago and was a tremendous success was just one of many events that Ciara organised. Ciara is still organising a number of events and they include “Parachute Jumps”, school initiatives etc. Indeed people are still approaching Ciara with fundraising ideas and she continues to welcome any suggestions people may have or ideally any events that people would like to organise themselves, in aid of the “Special Olympics Support An Athlete Fundraising Campaign”.

The highlight of all this fundraising activity will cumulate with “The Grand Finale Gala Concert” which will take place on Friday May 25th in Grant’s Hotel. The concert will feature some of the local areas best known singers and musicians. A number of surprise guests and artists will also participate at the event so all in all the concert promises to be a wonderful occasion and certainly one that should not be missed. Tickets for this event go on sale next week and people are encouraged to purchase tickets as early as possible as a massive demand is expected.

The two athletes selected to compete in China at the World Games in October are Siobhan McMahon and Julie McGrath. Both athletes are clients of St Cronan’s Association in Roscrea and both athletes are looking forward to what will be a trip of a lifetime next October. Ciara said she loves working with the two girls and is very proud and privileged to be organising the campaign to get the athletes to China. If you or your club/organisation etc feel there is anything more you could add to Ciara’s, Special Olympic Support An Athlete Campaign” feel free to contact Ciara on (085)1398840 for more information.
