30,000 pigeons were released at the first race of the season
Recently the NIPA had their first pigeon race of the new season. The race started from Mt St Joseph’s, Roscrea. The birds were released at 12.00pm and what a sight, as up to 30,000 pigeons soared up into the sky and over the countryside surrounding the town. Large crowds gathered from all parts of the country to witness the event. Interest in Pigeon racing has increased dramatically in Ireland over the past few years. Roscrea Pigeon Club has reflected this national trend. If you would like to join the club or find out more about the sport you can do so by contacting Ken Fletcher (Roscrea Pigeon Club) on (0505)22601.
