The third consecutive Roscrea Chamber Of Commerce Annual Lunch proved to be yet again a relaxed and entertaining occasion. This year the event was attend by Irish Rugby Legend, Mick Galwey who proved to be a very popular and enjoyable guest.
Secretary of Roscrea Chamber Of Commerce, Mr Brian King welcomed everyone to the event. He said as well as been a good social occasion the day was all about bringing the curtain down on Flor Spillane’s successful twelve month tenure as Chamber President. The Secretary said he had worked with the President on numerous projects throughout the year and he praised Flor for his commitment to the Chamber and to the town of Roscrea.
In his address the Chamber President Mr Flor Spillane firstly welcomed the incoming President of Roscrea Chamber Of Commerce, Mr Brian Colclough. The President wished Brian every success for the year ahead.
Reflecting on the year the Chamber President said Roscrea as a town has seen some fantastic developments over the last twelve months. He cited the new high speed Internet Ring being installed around Roscrea, as well as the proposed development of the Shannon Development Land, the new Benamore Business Park and Dunne’s Stores full planning permission, as projects that the town can look forward to in the near future.
The President said that with decentralisation we have seen the Civil Defence moving to Roscrea and now we have the Law and Equity Reform moving to Roscrea along with the Garda Ombudsman Department. He then encouraged all businesses to get involved in the Chamber and play a part in the town’s future development.
The President thanked Brian Colclough, John Guilfoyle, Ray McCarthy, The Treasurer, Michael Madden, Seamus Browne and all The Chamber of Commerce Members for all their help during the year. He thanked Councillors Pauline Coonan, Denis Ryan and Michael Smith Jnr for their help and he also reserved a very special thank you to Ann Keegan and Liam Doran who is said help keep the profile of the Chamber so strong. The President said that most of all he found the help and guidance of Brian King during his tenure as President absolutely priceless. He said it would have been extremely difficult without Brian King’s advice and focus and he concluded by wishing both the Chamber Secretary and the incoming President every success for the year ahead.
After lunch Mick Galwey shared his experiences with the audience of his time with the Shannon, Munster and Irish rugby teams. Brian King then conducted lively questions and answers session and afterwards everyone got an opportunity to have their photo taken with one of Ireland’s most popular sports stars. |
