The R.C.T.L.C. 11th Annual Sports Stars Awards have been announced. The Awards Presentation Dinner will take place in Roscrea’s Racket Hall on Saturday night, March 7th. This year there is a wide geographical spread among the Award Winners who were chosen by the sports journalists of the local media.
In this the 2008 Annual Sports Stars Awards there are 16 categories of Awards headed by Hall of Fame recipient John Dillon of Roscrea. John captained the first Roscrea Senior Hurling team to win a County Tipperary Hurling Final, forty years ago, in 1968.
The other Award categories and recipients are: Athletics – Catriona Ryan, Thurles, Badminton – Country Club Badminton, Roscrea – Division 5, Rugby - Aaron Carroll Boxing – Bogamil Stark, Roscrea Boxing Club, Camogie - Michaela Morkan, Shinrone, Contribution to Sport: Hugh McDonnell, Roscrea, Golf – Joe Rowland, Birr, Hurling Award – Michael Ryan, Roscrea, Paralympic Sports: Eoin Cleare, Shinrone, Pitch & Putt – Martha O’Brien, Templemore, Snooker – David Hogan, Borrisokane, Soccer – Cian Doyle, Roscrea, Sports Personality – Seamus Dennison, Roscrea, Special Recognition Award – the survivors of the 1949 Laois/Tipperary All Ireland Hurling Final, Youth Award/Special Award – Jason Fitzpatrick, Roscrea.
